Week 10: The Spirit’s Unity

Ephesians 4:3-6 says,
"Eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."

Story of the Disciples Learning Week 10
As the early Church grew, the disciples faced challenges in maintaining unity among believers from different backgrounds. Peter, who had been hesitant to associate with Gentiles, received a vision from God. In the vision, he was told, "What God has made clean, do not call common" (Acts 10:15).
Later, Peter visited Cornelius, a Gentile, and shared the gospel with him. The Holy Spirit fell on Cornelius and his household, and Peter declared, "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" (Acts 10:47).
When Peter returned to Jerusalem, some Jewish believers criticized him for associating with Gentiles. Peter explained his vision and how the Spirit had worked among the Gentiles. James, the leader of the Jerusalem church, said, "It seems that God has granted repentance that leads to life even to the Gentiles" (Acts 11:18).
John, the beloved disciple, added, "The Spirit unites us as one body in Christ. There’s no Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female—we’re all one in Him."
Andrew, ever practical, said, "We need to be intentional about maintaining unity. It’s not always easy, but it’s essential."
Philip, who had been preaching to Samaritans, shared, "The Spirit breaks down barriers and brings people together. He’s the one who unites us."
Bartholomew, known for his honesty, admitted, "I’ve struggled with prejudice, but the Spirit is changing my heart."
Thomas, who had doubted but now believed, said, "I’ve seen the Spirit’s unity at work. He’s real, and He’s powerful."
Matthew, the former tax collector, added, "The Spirit’s unity is about love. It’s how we show the world that we’re His disciples."
Simon the Zealot, who had once been a political revolutionary, said, "The Spirit’s unity brings peace and harmony. It’s how we fulfill Jesus’ prayer for us."
As the disciples reflected on Peter’s experience, they realized the importance of maintaining unity in the Spirit.
