16. Spirit of Poverty

The Bible teaches about poverty and its effects on people. To write or speak about a spirit of poverty does not fall into the arena of prosperity teaching. A spirit of poverty has nothing to do with how much anyone owns, what they eat, or what they wear. A spirit of poverty can oppress, and not infrequently does, wealthy people.

This spirit does not oppress many people who are below the "poverty level." It has nothing to do with wealth or lack thereof. It is related to greed and fear of loss.
A demonic spirit that has access to sin and iniquity in the areas of giving and receiving is known as a spirit of poverty. It operates generationally through iniquity; therefore, it is a familiar (or family-line) spirit. This spirit is related to Belial, the destroyer, described in Psalm 18:4 and 2 Corinthians 6:15. A spirit of poverty is a condition in a person, a people, and/or a land.

Overcoming the Poverty Spirit

The enemy is responsible for this spirit. It trickery, coerces, blinds, and dissuades you from pursuing the goals God has set for your life. Poverty's spirit is a deliberate and cunning attack that happens gradually. It misrepresents what God says regarding identity, poverty, blessings, and money.

It draws attention to your shortcomings and brings up memories of prior mistakes. Disappointment and discouragement eventually cause doubts to creep into your thoughts, leaving you feeling hollow and lacking ambition for the future.

It makes you smile to think of hoarding. Believing that God will not meet your needs Believing we are holy because we lack Believing that manipulating others was a necessary skill for success Believing that greed is the motivation of all affluent individuals Without leading a generous life, we have to cling tightly to what we have. These attitudes just aren't consistent with what God has said.

Having grown up with this mindset, it can be challenging to recognise it in your own family or your own offspring.

But once you start asking the Holy Spirit to show you what the poverty spirit in your life is up to, your eyes will open and you will know how to address it from the ground up.

The Robbery Assignment of the Spirit of Poverty According to the Bible, every spirit that denies that Jesus Christ ever existed in the flesh is the spirit of the Antichrist, who is now at work in the world (see 1 John 4:3), not of God.

Anti implies "in lieu of," "against," or "in opposition to." Christ is derived from the Greek word Christos, which signifies "the anointed one," or "the Messiah." You may understand how the spirit of poverty opposes Christ's favour and blessings towards you because Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One) says in John 10:10 that the adversary comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but He came to offer abundant life. Rather than trusting in the love of the Father, it wants you to believe the falsehoods of lack. It desires that you trade in your benefits for a curse.

One of the many "antichrists" that have arisen to deceive in the latter hour is the spirit of poverty (see 1 John 2:18–19). And its mission is to deprive you of God's favour and resources. It gains access to your life through pride, victimisation, guilt, and humiliation.

Recognise the poverty spirit's traits and the processes it goes through to enter your life in order to free yourself from it.

Due to our Adamic nature, we automatically open our wallets to see what's inside before opening the Bible to recall the promise when the Holy Spirit asks us to take a leap of faith on a task.

Because we prefer to trust what we see rather than what our faith should be, we frequently miss out on experiencing all that God has in store for us.

Try living from a spirit of gratitude and generosity the next time you're feeling bad about the blessings you've received, greedy and find yourself hoarding, or fearful that your giving will put you in a position of shortage. Express gratitude for all that God has provided. Give liberally and joyfully, without hesitation or fear, to the Kingdom from that bountiful abundance that Philippians 4:19 describes. God does not bestow his blessings on you in order for you to amass wealth. In order to fulfil His commitment with you and make you a beacon to the world, He grants you the capacity to accumulate money (see Deuteronomy 8:18). Put another way, declare that your cup overflows whenever your body tries to convince you that you don't have enough. Agree that all you require will come from your Father in accordance with His glory in Christ Jesus (see Philippians 4:19, Psalm 23:5–6). Establish the disciplined habit of turning to the Bible first through prayer.

"When I get (name an amount of money or a particular position), then I will take that step of faith and give or journey towards the desires God has placed on my heart to further His kingdom," declares the voice of the poverty spirit.

However, this is not what the Bible states!

The Lord of hosts says, "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out such blessings for you that there will not be room to receive them." —3:10 Malachi You are reminded of what you have in Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Poverty has a way of saying, "You don't have enough." However, according to the Holy Spirit, "in Christ you have access to every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 1:3).

Let's get this clear.

You are not being asked by God to give up what you lack. With what you do have, he expects you to give and live a happy life.

An opulent legacy that endures

"Glorified be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has provided us with a living hope through His resurrection from the dead, as well as an inheritance that is kept pure and unfading in heaven just for you, all because of His boundless mercy." 1:1–4 in 1 Peter A life abundant

The Poverty Spirit's Stages We are aware that the enemy takes use of your past and present circumstances to rob you of your happiness and hope; one method he does this task is by sending out the poverty spirit. When you experience feelings of dissatisfaction, anxiety, dread, pride, entitlement, and bitterness, you know it's at work. It may appear minor at first, but it operates at progressively higher levels.

Stage 1: The mentality of poverty The spirit of poverty starts tiny and whispers words of lack and discontent into our minds. This pertains to both emotional well-being and possessions or conceit. Perhaps you've ever thought to yourself, "I could never do what he or she does," after seeing someone who exudes confidence. False humility, a lack of faith in God, or the exceptional manner He made you are all possible manifestations of stage one.

Stage 2: The notion of poverty Your beliefs become ingrained in those ideas once they become established and stay there. You dwell on ideas that lead to resentment and disappointment rather than considering the potential gifts and riches from the Lord. The notion that God has not given you enough begins to permeate your mind.

Third Phase: The Poverty Measures The spirit of poverty has taken up residence in your thoughts. Your behaviour starts to show the impact of this spirit. People nearby are aware of this. Your behaviours will show how unhappy you are and how "poor" you think yourself to be.

Stage 4: The poverty spirit is fully embraced Eventually, the spirit of destitution seeps into every part of your consciousness. After years of enduring it, it affects more people than just you. Your family dynamics and relationships are impacted by this spirit, which even carries over to the following generation. It could have been inherited by you.

The magnificent good news is that, in Jesus name, you can confess the blood and repent, freeing yourself from the spirit of poverty!

No matter how much money I make, I seem to always be stuck in a cycle of poverty because I suffer from chronic, long-term lack. I believe I must donate all of my work. I'm always considering how "expensive" paying for a service is. When I receive something for free, I consider it a gain. I don't give the Lord offerings or tithes. It is hard for me to feel glad for those who are wealthy. I find it difficult to make prudent financial decisions, which stresses me out. Even if someone has the means to pay for their financial decisions, I still catch myself passing judgement on them. Recall that the purpose of this list is to reveal this wicked spirit so that you can deal with it and overcome it, not to instill guilt or shame!

Glory to the Lord! Happy is the man who delights greatly in the instructions of the Lord and fears Him. The generation of the upright will be blessed, and his successors will be powerful on earth. His home will be rich and prosperous, and his righteousness will stand the test of time. —Hebrews 112:1-3 Does this seem like the Lord speaking through the spirit of poverty? Good news and hope are present. You are capable of conquering and releasing yourself from the spirit's hold on your life!

Three Steps to Overcoming the Poverty Spirit to Break Free Acknowledge, own up to, and express regret. All of us have experienced the ugly spirit of poverty. You are free to avoid feeling guilty or ashamed because the above checklist reveals its influence. Its purpose is to assist you in recognising its impact and messages in our culture, like... You require more. You own the money. Give it not away, as it may run out. You can't do with what you have. The enemy's lies result in censure rather than conviction. Lies from Satan breed hatred, wrath, or guilt. These are not the words of the Lord that bring hope and plenty.

You can overcome the poverty spirit if you see any characteristics in your family or yourself by acknowledging, repenting, and owning up to your mistakes.

"Repent of your transgressions towards one another and offer prayers for one another's healing. An upright man's earnest, powerful prayer accomplishes much. —John 5:16 Reach a consensus with a giving attitude. Once the poverty spirit has been identified, acknowledged, and repented of, the greatest course of action is to align oneself with God's Word and the spirit of generosity. The Holy Spirit is never impoverished or lacking in spirit. He is a generous person exclusively. He won't use empty words when speaking to you. He cannot speak to you in any other way but with an expression of appreciation, adoration, and charity.

What is meant by that?

It indicates that God has sown aspirations and dreams in your heart. Then the opposition tries to use lies to skew those dreams. These falsehoods suggest that you are avaricious and ought to feel bad for possessing them. Or it's possible that the lies accentuate your flaws in order to rob you of the potential in your future vision.

God is so giving. He offered you His one and only Son. Joy returns when this fact is put into perspective. Jesus paid the price for your salvation, not you. Seek the Lord to fill you again with the delight of your gift—eternal life and your name recorded in the books of heaven.

"Restore the joy of Your salvation to me, and strengthen me with Your gracious Spirit." From Psalm 51:12 Pray, give thanks, and never stop giving thanks. Recognise that the devil is scavenging and waiting to devour. This is why you should, if needed, repeat the act of repentance and alignment with God's Word several times a day, especially in the early stages of your breakthrough. Next, give Him thanks for all that He is doing in your life and acknowledge the breakthroughs He is providing. This causes a mental metamorphosis that modifies your emotions and will. This change can only be accomplished via the operation of the Holy Spirit in your life, not by your will alone. This is an example of a prayer that you could say right now:

"In the name of Jesus, Father God, I acknowledge that I am not reading this by accident today. I'm reading it in hopes of being freed from the spirit of poverty. Father God, I am impoverished, not condemned, and my mentality has been shaped by a spirit of poverty. I accept that the spirit has influenced me and my family. I come out of agreement with it and confess my sins before you, Lord. I break it down and prevent it from attaching itself to me or my dependents by the power of Your blood and Your Holy Spirit within me, Lord.Using Your Word from Deuteronomy 7 and 28, I declare Your blessings of wealth over my family and myself for a millennium. I release all lies, hexes, and curses related to poverty from my thoughts, will, and feelings in the name of Jesus. I'm grateful, Lord! I ask that the Holy Spirit's knowledge be processed by my soul via God's Word, which serves as God's voice. We are one, God, you and me. We are one people.Come, Holy Spirit, and fill me with Your fire so that I can drive away all deceptive spirits that have caused me to doubt, not believe, or take on identities that are not mine. In Jesus, everything is renewed, including me. I am a new creation. Lord, you have my gratitude and praise! This season, I'm available to be promoted into my call for the double portion blessing. In Jesus name, I answer that call with a yes, Lord. Indeed.

Shut the Doors of Poverty and Open the Doors of Prosperity To open doors, there's one more thing you can do. Take a moment to consider one area in which you spend both money and time. You may use the money you would have spent on other things to bless and activate God's kingdom in your life if you were to fast from it.

Maybe it's the Big Gulp you get on your way home from work, or the Starbucks you buy every day. Ask the Lord whether He wants you to fast from it, whatever it may be, and then return the rewards to His kingdom. Opening doors is acting in accordance with the Holy Spirit.

Fasting is meant to serve as a prompt. Every time you wish to behave according to your old nature, it serves as a reminder to your soul to realign. Your spirit is reminded of God's generosity while you fast. The act can help you to overcome the spirit of poverty in your life and free your mind, will, and emotions from a mindset of need. It serves as a reminder to invoke the name of the Lord and submit to His word.
