Week 4: The Fruit of the Spirit
Key Lesson: The Holy Spirit produces fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23 says,
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
These qualities are evidence of the Spirit’s work in our lives and reflect the character of Christ.
Story of the Disciples Learning Week 4
As the early Church grew, the disciples faced challenges in their relationships with one another and with new believers. Peter, known for his boldness, struggled with impatience. One day, he asked Jesus in prayer, "Lord, how can I become more like You?"
John, the beloved disciple, shared, "Jesus taught us that the Spirit produces fruit in our lives. It’s not something we can do on our own."
James, the son of Zebedee, added, "The fruit of the Spirit is evidence of His work in us. It’s how people see Christ in us."
Andrew, ever practical, said, "But how do we grow in these qualities? How do we bear this fruit?"
Philip, who had been reflecting on Jesus’ teachings, replied, *"It’s through abiding in Him. Jesus said, ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit’" (John 15:5).
Bartholomew, known for his honesty, admitted, "I’ve struggled with kindness and gentleness. I need the Spirit to help me."
Thomas, who had doubted but now believed, said, "I’ve seen the Spirit’s work in my life. He’s changing me, producing love and peace where there was once fear and anger."
Matthew, the former tax collector, added, "The fruit of the Spirit is what sets us apart as followers of Christ. It’s how we show His love to the world."
Simon the Zealot, who had once been a political revolutionary, said, "The Spirit’s fruit brings unity and harmony. It’s how we live in peace with one another."
As the disciples prayed and reflected, they realized that bearing the fruit of the Spirit was not about their own efforts but about surrendering to the Spirit’s work in their lives.
