Story: The Lesson of the Empty Boat (John 21:1-17)
After Jesus' death and resurrection, Peter, John, and the other disciples found themselves confused and uncertain about their future. They had been with Jesus for three years, learning from Him directly, but now everything felt different. They didn't fully understand the mission Jesus had called them to, nor how to continue His work without His physical presence.
One morning, after a fruitless night of fishing, the disciples saw a man on the shore. He called out, "Friends, haven't you caught any fish?" They responded, "No." The man then instructed them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some."
By obedience, they cast the net again, and suddenly their catch was so large that they couldn't haul it in alone. Recognizing Jesus, Peter immediately jumped into the water and hurried to the shore, where Jesus greeted them with warm, familiar words: "Come, have breakfast."
This moment was more than just a miraculous catch; it was a lesson in understanding their role in mentoring and mission. Jesus used the simple act of fishing to teach His disciples about dependence on Him, obedience, and the importance of relationship.
After breakfast, Jesus turned to Peter and asked three times, "Do you love me?" Each time, Peter responded, affirming his love, and Jesus entrusted him with a significant mission: "Feed my sheep." This was Jesus mentoring Peter directly—reinforcing his calling, teaching him to lead, and preparing him for the mission ahead.
What we learn from this story:

It reminds us that effective mentoring in Christian leadership is relational, practical, and rooted in love and obedience to Christ’s call and following his Holy Spirit.

Reflection:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
Reflection:
Mentoring and leadership require wisdom, especially when facing difficulties. Seek God’s guidance daily, and He will strengthen you with wisdom to navigate challenges and grow in authority.
5. 2 Corinthians 12:9
"But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."
Reflection:
Overcoming challenges often involves our weakness, but God’s grace and power are sufficient. As you face difficulties, rely on His strength to grow in authority and continue faithful mentoring.
6. Luke 10:19
"I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."
Reflection:
Growing in spiritual authority means understanding that Christ has empowered us to overcome opposition. Stand firm in faith, knowing that God's authority given to you is greater than any challenge you face.
Strong Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. Thank You for calling me to be part of Your great mission—making disciples and leading others intently rooted in Your love and truth.
Lord, I ask for the wisdom to understand what it truly means to mentor others like Jesus did. Help me to cultivate a servant’s heart, to lead with humility, and to reflect Christ’s character in all I do. Teach me to build genuine relationships rooted in trust, patience, and love.
Father, I recognize that challenges will come as I step out in faith. But I cling to Your promise that Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Strengthen me to overcome obstacles, to persevere through difficulties, and to grow in authority that is grounded in Your Spirit.
Jesus, You are the ultimate example of leadership—one who led not by domination, but by service and sacrifice. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I may lead with humility, confidence, and unwavering commitment to Your mission.
