Story: Emma and David’s Journey of Gratitude
Emma and David had been married for over a decade, and over the years, busy schedules and daily stresses had begun to take a toll. They found themselves caught up in routines—work, chores, raising kids—and often forgot to acknowledge the small, meaningful things they did for each other. Facebook posts and Instagram stories often highlighted the highlights, but behind closed doors, they felt a little disconnected.
One evening, after another day of arguing over household chores and feeling unappreciated, Emma remembered a story she once heard about the ten lepers—how only one came back to thank Jesus for healing him. That story struck a chord. She realized she’d been taking David’s efforts for granted, focusing on what wasn’t done instead of appreciating what was.
The next morning, Emma made a conscious decision to start noticing and thanking David for the little things—like taking out the trash without being asked, making breakfast, or cheering her up after a tough day. She began writing down things she appreciated about him in a small notebook. David, noticing her change, also started expressing gratitude—thanking her for being patient with the kids, or simply saying, “I appreciate you” more often.
As they practiced gratitude, something shifted. Their conversations became warmer; their home felt lighter. Emma and David discovered that focusing on what they were thankful for created more joy and strengthened their connection. They realized that gratitude wasn’t just about feelings—it's an active choice that transformed their marriage from routine to refuge.
They found that gratitude helped them see each other’s goodness even amid the chaos of life. It reminded them that love flourishes when nurtured with appreciation and thankfulness.

Fill us with Your Spirit, so that thankfulness becomes our default attitude—a reflection of Your goodness and grace. Help us to focus on what we have instead of what we lack, and to honor You with hearts full of praise.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
