Week 11: Spiritual Warfare – How to Fight and Win

Expanded Teaching and Practical Application

Story: Martin, Helen, Jordy, and Joanne Stand Firm in Spiritual Warfare

Martin had always been skeptical about spiritual warfare. He believed in God and Jesus, but the idea of battling unseen forces felt too abstract. However, over the past few months, he’d noticed strange patterns in their family life—arguments, unexplained fears, and a sense of heaviness that wouldn’t go away.

As the family studied Week 11 of the Omega Course, Martin began to see these struggles in a new light. “Maybe this is spiritual warfare,” he said one evening. “Maybe the enemy is trying to divide us and steal our peace.”

Helen nodded. “I’ve been feeling it too. It’s like there’s a constant battle for our family’s unity and joy.”

Jordy and Joanne listened quietly. “What can we do?” Jordy asked.

“We can fight back,” Martin said. “We can use the armor of God and pray for protection.”

The family decided to take action. Each morning, they prayed through Ephesians 6:10-18, putting on the armor of God. Martin prayed for wisdom and strength, Helen prayed for peace and unity, Jordy prayed for courage, and Joanne prayed for joy.

Over the next few days, they began to see changes. The arguments lessened, and the heaviness lifted. Jordy and Joanne started praying on their own, asking God to protect them at school.

One evening, Martin shared a breakthrough. “At work today, I felt a strong sense of peace, even when things got stressful. I know it’s because we’ve been praying and standing firm in God’s armor.”

Helen smiled. “I’ve been feeling more at peace too. It’s like God is fighting for us.”

Jordy added, “I prayed for my soccer team, and we won our game!”

Joanne grinned. “And I’ve been feeling happier at school.”

Martin felt a deep sense of gratitude. “This is what it means to stand firm in spiritual warfare. It’s not about being afraid—it’s about trusting God to fight for us and using the tools He’s given us.”

Keys and Tips for Spiritual Warfare

  1. Recognize the Battle: Be aware of the enemy’s tactics and attacks.
  2. Use the Armor of God: Pray through Ephesians 6:10-18 daily.
  3. Pray Boldly: Claim God’s promises and resist the enemy in prayer.
  4. Stay Connected: Fellowship with other believers for support and accountability.
  5. Guard Your Heart: Avoid anything that gives the enemy a foothold.

This story illustrates how Martin, Helen, Jordy, and Joanne learned to stand firm in spiritual warfare, using the armor of God and the power of prayer to resist the enemy’s attacks. It’s a powerful reminder that we’re not alone in the battle—God is with us, and He’s already won the victory. Let me know if you’d like to add or adjust anything further!

1. Understanding Spiritual Warfare

What is Spiritual Warfare?

  • Spiritual warfare is the ongoing battle between God’s Kingdom and Satan’s kingdom (Ephesians 6:12).
  • It’s not fought with physical weapons but with spiritual tools like prayer, Scripture, and faith.

Why Spiritual Warfare Matters:

  • It’s a reality for every believer, whether we recognize it or not.
  • It impacts our spiritual growth, relationships, and effectiveness in God’s Kingdom.
  • It’s a battle Jesus has already won, but we must stand firm in His victory (Colossians 2:15).

2. The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the armor of God, which equips us for spiritual warfare:

  1. Belt of Truth: Stand firm in God’s truth and reject lies.
  2. Breastplate of Righteousness: Live in righteousness and holiness.
  3. Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Walk in peace and share the Gospel.
  4. Shield of Faith: Trust God to protect you from the enemy’s attacks.
  5. Helmet of Salvation: Remember your identity in Christ and your eternal security.
  6. Sword of the Spirit: Use Scripture to counter the enemy’s lies.
  7. Prayer: Pray in the Spirit and stay alert.

How to Use the Armor of God:

  • Put it on daily through prayer and Scripture meditation.
  • Use it actively to resist the enemy’s attacks.

3. Strategies for Victory

  1. Know Your Enemy: Understand Satan’s tactics, such as deception, temptation, and discouragement.
  2. Stand Firm: Resist the enemy with faith and God’s Word (James 4:7).
  3. Pray Boldly: Use prayer to break strongholds and claim God’s promises.
  4. Stay Connected: Fellowship with other believers for support and accountability.
  5. Guard Your Heart: Avoid anything that gives the enemy a foothold (Proverbs 4:23).

4. Practical Exercises for Week 11

  1. Pray the Armor of God: Each morning, pray through Ephesians 6:10-18 and put on the armor.
  2. Scripture Declarations: Write down verses about God’s promises and declare them daily.
  3. Identify Attacks: Reflect on areas where you’ve experienced spiritual attacks and pray for protection.
  4. Accountability Partner: Share your reflections with a trusted friend or mentor and pray together.

6 Verses for Meditation (One Verse a Day)

  1. Day 1: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” – Ephesians 6:12
  2. Day 2: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7
  3. Day 3: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8
  4. Day 4: “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 15:57
  5. Day 5: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10
  6. Day 6: “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:3

Reflection Questions

  1. How have I experienced spiritual warfare in my life?
  2. How can I use the armor of God to resist the enemy’s attacks?
  3. What areas of my life do I need to guard against spiritual attacks?
  4. How can I pray more effectively in spiritual warfare?

A Strong Prayer to Finish

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for equipping me with the armor of God to stand firm in spiritual warfare. Today, I put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. I take up the weapon of prayer and declare victory over every attack of the enemy. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to walk in Your power and authority. Use me to bring Your light and victory to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Conclusion:

Week 11 focuses on spiritual warfare, providing practical steps to fight and win using the armor of God and the power of prayer. It’s designed to help participants recognize and resist the enemy’s attacks, standing firm in the victory Jesus has already won.
